Who are We?



The most relevant question in regard to "getting to know us" is not what, but rather who are we? As our mission statement reflects, we are a community of committed life-long learners. Some of us are administrators. Others are support personnel. And still others are, of course, teachers. And then there is the most important group in our community -- the reason our learning community even exits -- our students and their families. Like the town of Jacksonville, our learners are a diverse group coming from many different backgrounds, experiences, ethnicities, and religious traditions. More than 95% of the school-age children in of Jacksonville choose to attend the city's two public schools, and they bring with them rich family histories and traditions, all of which add value to our system. It is really not possible to get to know us without a personal visit to our schools and our wonderful town. And we invite potential residents and others to arrange a visit through either of our school offices. However, below you will find some helpful information and statistics which will help you get to know us better:



Total enrollment at Kitty Stone Elementary School (PreK-6): 850

Total Ratio of Certified Teachers to Students at KSES: 1:16

Total enrollment at Jacksonville High School (7-12): 700

Total Ratio of Certified Teachers to Students at JHS: 1:18


Counseling: As a part of our commitment to the total well-being of all students, the Jacksonville City Board of Education goes beyond state and regional acceditation standards, employing 2 fulltime school counselors at each school.


Administration: We have a five fulltime administators in our two schools, including a principal and assistant principal at KSES and a principal and two assistants at JHS.

System-wide Ethnicity: Approximately 73% White; 25% Black; 2% Other ethnicities


Teachers' Credentials

KSES: 22 Bachelors' Degrees; 37 Advanced Degrees

JHS: 16 Bachelors' Degrees; 30 Advanced Degrees

Documents Needed for Registration for Kindergarten, Private School and/or Out of State Transfers:
1.) Birth Certificate (Requested but not Required)
2.) Social Security Card (Requested but not Required)

3.) Withdrawal form or Report Card from previous school 
4.) Two (2) Proofs of Residence (utility bill, rental/lease agreement)
5.) Custody Paper (if needed)

6.) Alabama Immunization Record
